26A Comparative Study of the Differences and Commonalities in Traditional Festival Cultures of China and Italy
SpeakerZhao Nan

As two major representatives of Eastern and Western civilizations, China and Italy each possess a festival system that carries their unique cultural genes. From the agricultural rhythms of the Yellow River basin to the evolution from polytheism to monotheism on the Apennine Peninsula, from Confucian ethics to Catholic doctrine, festivals serve as vessels of cultural memory. They not only reflect the divergent paths of civilizational development, but also reveal the shared emotional structures of humanity.
This lecture adopts a comparative approach to delve into the internal logic and external expressions of the Chinese and Italian festival systems.
